Thursday is here and it is my usual laundry day. I do laundry every day except when I work Mon - Wed. So by today I have several loads to get done. I am planning to wash all of my white cup towels and washcloths today in Clorox to whiten them. My things get dingy due to makeup and tea stains. So they need a little bleach bath. Do you remember when ladies used bluing to whiten their whites? I can remember my Granny washing her laundry outside on her wringer washing machine and she would put a little bluing in her rinse cycle to whiten them and then hang them on her clothes line. MMMM I can still smell how fresh and clean it was. All of her sheets were 100% cotton and so soft. My little sister and I would run through the sheets on the line and hide in them. The wind would be whipping them and they would crack and pop while they dried. We would help her take in the laundry and fold it. She would iron and starch her linens and fold them nicely. But the sheets would go back on the bed. She would "air out" the mattresses while the laundry was being done. I seem to have those same habits as an adult. I love clean sheets and change them several times a week. But I sometimes will use the same set over and over after they are washed for a few weeks, before I bring out a different color.
Well, I am off to do my taxes!! Yuck. Hope everyone is having great day.
Hugs,
Lorri

I love to do laundry and do a little every day just to make the house smell good. I collect vintage linens and love the way they smell from the days when laundry was starched and pressed and smelled so sweet!
One day I will do a post with all of my old linens.
Enjoy your day!!! And good luck with the taxes!!
My all time favorite smell is the smell of clean, air dried sheets.
My second favorite: hyacinths.
Isn't it something how everyday chores created memories to warm your heart on laundry day?
Smells can bring back so many past images. Life is really sweet sometimes.
I love the laundry air dried too. It always smelled so good. The dryer sheets just can't make that smell. And I do remember the blueing. When my dad was starting to get gray, he started pretty early and had black hair so he wanted it to be silver gray and my mother would mix up some blueing to rinse in his hair. He always has beautiful black and silver hair. The blueing really worked. Good luck with taxes and hope you have a good day.

Taxes and laundry! You'll definitely need to treat yourself after that. ♥
There is something so wonderful about getting into a freshly laundered bed! And after doing those taxes you deserve a little bit of indulgence Lorri!
Believe it or not, I used to do my laundry the same way your Grandmother did! I had a wringer washer, mine was in my kitchen, and I had to fill the washer and a rinse tub with water. Put the clothes in, starting with whites, then colors, and then the dark ones. Then hang them on the outside clothes line and when they were dry, take them down and fold, iron and put away. Then empty the washer and rinse tub by the bucketful. It usually took all day. I did all the baby clothes and diapers separately from the other clothes. A lot of work but that's how we did it!
Is there anything better than the smell of sheets brought in off the line, the windows open for the day... makes for really "sweet" dreams! :)

I currently live in a space with out access to a clothesline. I find I can get that same great air dried feel on my sheets by using a clothes drying rack and a fan.
