The Castle

We are serious Disney fans and are now planning a new trip to the castle! Cinderella's abode is magical and wonderful. I love Main street downtown and all the charm of a by gone era. I could live there forever. This year we will be taking grandkids to Disney World. I have been working on the reservations and making special plans for a huge surprise upon arrival! SHHHH! Cant tell yet.
Hope you all have a magical week!

It's Fall!

Hello everyone! I am so happy it is Friday! This has been a very long week. It has rained all week long here and I am ready for a little sunshine. The good news is that a cold front is moving in and it is time for fall weather!
I love the fall. It is without a doubt my favorite time of the year. I went shopping today and saw so many glorious ideas! I am going back tomorrow to buy some new things to re-do my mantle.

We are planning a trip to Eureka Springs in 3 weeks. The leaves will be changing and the air has just a hint of winter in it. We will be celebrating our very 1st anniversary. We were married there last October. I just cant wait to go back. We hope to visit Branson one day and the War Eagle Mills craft show will be going on as well. I am saving up for the trip so I can bring back some wonderful handmade items.

I love, love ,love this time of year! Have a happy weekend.

Movie Monday

Ok, I know it is a little early for Christmas movies! We had a rainy Sunday afternoon, piled up on the sofa watching girl movies this week. Hubby was gone hunting so we had a nice time, enjoying all of our sappy movies we love to watch. In case you have not seen this show, it is wonderfully entertaining.
Two women who are not very happy with their lives, decide to swap houses for two weeks. Destiny intervenes and they both fall in love with men they meet on holiday. I know it sounds corny but is truly a good movie to watch!

Time to Quilt!

In spite of a hectic schedule, I always get in the mood to quilt in the fall. Thankfully, this year I actually have a great excuse to indulge in one of my favorite hobbies. One of my co-workers is expecting a new baby! She has no idea what the gender is, so I decided to make a bowtie quilt using 1930's fabric. It will be scrappy and oh so cute. I have pieced all of the blocks this weekend and plan to construct it during the evenings so that I can get it in the frames by the weekend. I love to sew but I really love to quilt! My daughter always helps me and it is so much fun to share this part of my life with her. She learned to sew at a young age and I taught her to quilt many years ago.
I will post the finished picture soon! Have a great week!

Julie and Julia : The Movie

We decided to see a movie today and I have been dying to watch Julie and Julia. What a great feel good movie! I love Meryl Streep, she is such a wonderful versatile actress. I was in awe as she portrayed Julia Child. She had the accent, the drama and mannerisms down! Of course I love cooking so I was loving every minute of the show. It starts out in France, where Julia is living with her husband. She becomes a little bored and decided to take a cooking class. Well, the rest is history. The other side of the movie was about an aspiring writer named Julie who takes on the challenge of cooking her way through Child's cookbook and blogging about it. This is all based on a true story. It is a great show. Hope you can get a chance to go and see it!
Have a safe week!

Childhood Memories

Growing up in the 1960's was a great time for me. I lived in a rural community on a farm with one sister. There were no other children around and did not even realize that other children lived in my small town! The first day of school was quite shocking as I walked in the classroom and discovered other kids.
My mother was a great seamstress and always made our clothes. Our toys were ordered from the Sears catalog. She made doll clothes for our new doll we would get each year and we always had lots of games. We entertained ourself for hours playing with them.

When we moved to a larger community, I was able to join the Girl scouts! I loved every minute of it. I sold cookies and earned badges to sew on my sash. I loved to figure out which one I would work on next.

One of my favorite items was a Suzy homemaker oven and washing machine. I got them when I was 6 years old and we just loved to pretend we were really cooking and washing. Lord have mercy! Just think, we were setting ourself up for a lifetime of it and didnt even know it then!
I have fond memories of visiting my Granny and helping her in the kitchen. She would always say "Lets stir up a cake!" and off we would go to make an angel food cake to go with the fresh strawberries we had picked that morning. She would let us pretend to sew on her treadle machine. We cut paperdolls out of the Sears catalog and stored them in cigar boxes from my grandfather. At night, we would sit out on the front porch and watch fireflies. We always managed to catch a few of them in an old mason jar. Every morning we would go out to the chicken coop and gather the eggs. We had a simple life. No cable ,video games or cell phones. We just had good old fashioned fun.
My grandfather was the best man in the world and he would come by and pick us up in his truck. We would go down to the pharmacy and have a coke float or maybe some peanuts and coke. It was always such a treat to spend time with him. He was more fun than anyone! He always carried a pocket full of quarters and would take his pocket knife out dig a hole in the sand. We would have a contest to see who could pitch the most quarters in the hole.
I can remember all of these things and wish life was once again that way. So happy that I have those memories to look back on. Hope you have a safe and wonderful holiday!
