Paper Back Book Swap

During hard times we are always looking for ways to save more money. I am an avid reader and although I utilize the library. It is sometime's difficult for me to wait for a book to become available. I was reading another blog site one day when I discovered www.paperbackbookswap.com . I had many books that I had read and knew I would not use again, so I posted them on the web site. Within minutes, I started to recieve requests for my books. Once your book is requested, you print out a paper cover and tape around the book( instructions are included on the site). Ship the book media mail to the person who requested it. This usually costs around $2. When the book is recieved then you gain a credit in your account. With credits you can search the huge website for books that interest you. There are even audio books for the car if you like to use this feature. Also, I would like to add that hardback books are also posted on this site. I have only had one bad experience with using this site so far. My books are always in excellent condition and I sometimes forget that other people do not use my standard when shipping. I did recieve a book that was in poor condtion, but usable. You can personalize your requests by requesting books from smoke free enviroments, or pet free enviroments etc.
I have been pleased so far with this site. Hope you check it out !

I Cant Believe It!

We went for a short motorcycle ride late yesterday and stopped in for a few minutes at the Choctaw Casino. We are not big gamblers, so we seldom ever play. I walked around for a little while, just watching other people and decided to play a Wheel of Fortune penny slot (this is just a stock photo, not the actual machine). I put a $20 bill in, sat down on the stool and hit the max bet button. All of a sudden it started lighting up and making noise. I didnt have any idea how much I won. A lady walking by, stopped and said WOW! I looked up and had won an $800 jackpot. I quickly cashed out and went to find my husband. He was on a machine and had just won $200. We could not get out of there fast enough! We laughed all of the way home. I was dreaming of a new purse, but my hubsand, being the responsible one stopped by the bank and deposited the money in savings! Oh well, at least it can be used toward a vacation this year!

Movie Monday!

Director Ron Howard has done it again! Frost/Nixon is a wonderfully entertaining movie. I love the drama and the controversy it evokes. I found it to be a very intense movie, but really enjoyed it. I had been wanting to watch this forever, but have not had the chance. Fortunantly, we had time last night to watch it on pay per view. In fact, we saw it twice yesterday. I hope you will take time see it! Have a great day.

Springtime Favorite

One of the reasons I love springtime! Fresh strawberries. We eat alot of them in the spring and summer. I bought some this week, sliced them, sprinkled with sugar and served with angel food cake. After the cake was gone, we ate them with homemade Blue Bell vanilla! YUM! One of lifes simple pleasures.
Have a great week

Oreo Cookies

We had a bakesale last week and one of my co workers brought a candy called oreo cookie balls. It was so good, but I could only eat one of them. They are very rich. Here is the resipe for you to try.

One pkg Oreo cookies regular
1 pkg softened cream cheese
dipping chocolate

Place entire pkg of oreos in a food processer and crush to fine
add 1 pkg of cream cheese and blend until smooth
chill contents overnight until firm
roll spoonfuls into a ball and place on wax paper

Melt dipping chocolate. You can use white or dark. Use a toothpick to dip balls until fully coated and place on wax paper until hard. This recipe makes about 2-3 dozen depending on the size of the balls.

They are so good, but very rich! We love oreos and I am making some this weekend!

King Tut

I am so excited. This weekend, I am taking my 9 year old grandson to Dallas to see the King Tut exhibition. I have been wanting to go and just have not been able to get away. I have learned, that sometimes you just have to go!
My grandson Caleb, is so interested in history, museums, and anything science. Hmmmm...wonder where he gets that from?LOL ! So, we have bought the tickets and are traveling Saturday morning to make it in time for the 1pm show.
Caleb wants to be a scientist when he grows up. When he is here, we are always watching the Smithsonian channel, Discovery or History channel. He is very excited about this trip and cant wait to see this exhibit. We are going to watch the 3-D movie before we actually go into the museum display. I will keep you posted!
Have a great week,
Lorri

Movie Monday!

This past week I was asked to speak to the graduating RN class at the college. Looking in their faces brought back memories of this movie to me.

The Pursuit of Happyness is a true story of Chris Gardner, a salesman who is very down on his luck. His wife leaves him with his son to raise. He gets evicted from his apartment. There is no money for food, shelter or clothing . He decides to take a huge leap of faith and enters an internship for a brokerage firm. There is no salary and no guarantee of a job at the completion of the program. During the course of the nine months he sleeps in a shelter for the homeless and eats at soup kitchens. He tries to maintain an upbeat life for his son, who is obviously his whole life. Every sacrifice is made to achieve his dream and goals he has set for himself.

I loved this movie! Even though at every turn he faced unbearable obstacles, he overcomes at the end. His dreams come true.

For two years I faced some of the hardest times, I have ever been through. Never knowing if all of the hard work and sacrifice would pay off. I cant tell you how much peanut butter I ate during that time. How tired I was, and the panic I felt when near the end of the program my grades started to drop, despite all of the study time. I wasnt sure I would be able to pull it off. I looked in the faces of some of those women and saw the same desperation I was feeling such a short time ago. I cried all the way home. I will never forget the feeling of sheer joy and relief when the grades came in and I learned that I had passed! My God brought me through this and caused His blessing to fall upon me in those days. I somehow managed to pay the utilities, buy some food, pay for gas and hold down a full time job. My car never broke down and I did not even have a cold during that entire time. My children stayed well and although our diets were not the best they did fine. I will praise Him forever! I survived!
While my circumstances were not as severe as the movie was. It was such a difficult challenge that I never want to repeat again.

I hope you take time to watch this movie. It makes me so thankful for all I have in my life. I know it will make you count your blessings also! Have a wonderful week.

Some of My Favorite Things

I thought I would share some of my favorite things with you. I hope you will try some of my most delightful sinful pleasures! Romance by Ralph Lauren is my favorite fragrance of all time. I love the shower gel, the lotion, the powder and the perfume. I have a very hard time wearing perfumes. For some reason it changes odors after a while and gives me a headache. So there are very few that I can wear. This has been a staple for a long time now. Romance for Men is also wonderful!
Who can resist Godiva chocolate? Not me...Key lime truffles are fabulous.

MMMMM.......my favorite drink is Asti Spumante Champagne. Love to have a cheese and fruit plate with a bottle of this sparkling wine.

Ok...comfort rules at this house. I love natural cottons. You know the kind that gets softer with every wash? Eileen West has the most wonderful cotton nightgowns.

They are very comfortable and lightweight. Most of them are in pastel colors with ribbon and lace trim.

They do carry a black label collection that is more sexy for those who require that particular look! I love this nightwear. I discovered them last year on clearance at Dillards and bought two of them for the summer. I have worn them almost every night since. I just bought a few more to use this year and a lightweight robe to match. I am planning to buy my mother a set for her Birthday this year.
I have this thing for 100% cotton. It is a must for sheets, we only have high thread count sheets and simply refuse to use any other. When I met my husband, I knew right away he was a keeper when he was shopping for new bedding and told me he would not sleep on anything less than excellent quality sheets. Most men would balk at the price, but he does not. I try to keep several sets fresh for guests when they come to stay. I have also discovered Fieldcrest 100% cotton towels. They are so soft, it feels like you are drying off with a mink stole. I have replaced all of our old towels over the past year. They are usually around $12 ea. But easily found on sale.

I hope you try some of these items. I love them all! Have a great weekend.

Its Raining...Again!

It is raining here again. I am so disapointed. Everyday this week the weather has been so nice and pretty, but I was at work those days and didnt get to enjoy it. Today, I have been doing some housework, cleaning out the fridge, washing and all of the upkeep needed to keep my little cottage fresh and clean! I have made out my grocery shopping list, but decided to put that off until the weather cleared a bit. I hate to drive in bad weather and it absolutely destroys my hair!
Here are some lovely flowers to brighten your day! Enjoy your weekend.

Hugs to all!

Have a Wonderful Day!

Hope you are having a great week. I have been so busy this week, that I have not been able to keep up with my blogging. Hope that will change this weekend. I plan to spend some time reading every ones entries for the week. My boss is out of town and I am '"her" for the week. I have been putting in some very long hours in her absence. Thanks for all of the wonderful comments. I love to hear from you!
Have a very blessed week!
Hugs to all,

Have You Seen This?

Have you seen this video of Britians Most Talented? Susan Boyle is an unemployed single woman who dreamed a dream of being a professional singer. When I saw this video I could not hold back the tears of wonder that such a talent has gone for so long without being discovered. What an extraordinary woman! You must take the time to watch this video. Wonderful!!!

Movie Monday

Sharing with you the best movies of all time! I fell in love with Anne of Green Gables more than 20 years ago. The movies are absolutely the best. If you have young daughters or grandchildren this is a must see collection of family films.

The first two are my favorites, I was very excited about the 3rd movie, but dissapointed with it after watching it the first time. It just did not capture the spirit the others had. I have watched them so many times over the years and they are a staple in my DVD collection.

If you have not watched them, please put them on your must see list!
Have a happy day!

Planting English Roses

I love the look and the smell of heirloom roses. David Austen has the most wonderful varieties available to purchase.

I am planting some this year in my front flower bed.
I love the pink one

And the simple peach are just gorgeous!

Doesnt that look delicious? Just like a ripe peach. I can smell them already.
Have a great day!
