What I Am Reading

As you know I am deep into summer session classes, but I had to take a little break when this book arrived in the mail! The Prairie Girls Guide to Life is a must have book for all of you that long for the simple life of Little House On the Prairie. There are so many great ideas to hone your prairie girl skills. Making a quilt, canning, gardening and just about any long forgotten skill you could need to survive the recession!
I had a wonderful grandmother named Mabel and we called her Granny. She was the epitome of Laura Ingalls. Girls, she could do it all! I have seen her look at a dress in a magazine, throw down some newspaper, cut out a pattern and sew it up to look just like storebought! She canned, cooked, sewed, crafted and made a home on nothing. In her later years, I was always amazed at how she made that little bit of money go so far. She grew a garden in her flower bed in those last years and would can the produce for winter. She always looked so fresh and starched. Granny was a nurse and always wore the white uniforms, with her white hose and shoes. Her hair was pulled up in a bun and smelled like lavender. She was deeply religious and we never crossed the line with her. She put up with no nonsense whatsoever! I truly did not appreciate her until I was grown, she taught me so much and I long for just one more hour with her. I marvel at her legacy she left us. As an artist, as a herione, as a nurse, and a mother. She was the best friend I ever had!

Movie Monday!

If you have never seen this movie, it is a must! Directed by Stephen Spielberg, starring Richard Dryfuss and Holly Hunter. The story is about a dare devil pilot who loses his life in a fire. He then becomes the inspiration to another pilot who is wooing his girlfriend. The movie is very sweet and romantic. Lots of comedy and the soundtrack is wonderful! One of my all time favorites.
Have a great day!

Baking!

I have been baking again! Oh, it was so much fun. I really enjoy making homemade bread and got the chance yesterday to make some for my sweetie. He was so happy! I also made some No- bake cookies. I do not have have a picture of them but the recipe follows. Try it out if you like chocolate and peanut butter. My Granny used to make these for us when we were kids. I made them for my kids and now my grandkids enjoy them also. I know you will love them and they are so easy to make. One word of caution, just do not make them on a rainy day!

No Bake Cookies

1/4 cup Hershey cocoa
2 cups sugar
1 stick of butter
1/2 cup peanut butter
1 tsp vanilla
3 cups quick oats
1/3 cup milk

Melt butter in heavy saucepan, add sugar, cocoa and milk. Whisk together until blended well. Over medium heat stir constantly until mixute boils. Let it come to a boil for 2 minutes stirring well. Take off of heat and stir in peanut butter until melted, add vanilla and stir in oats. Use a tsp and drop cookie mixture onto wax paper, let set until firm or overnight.
Makes about 2 dozen cookies

ENJOY!

The News

There is nothing new about the news. It is always the same . I am banning the news at my house. I am so tired of murder, violence, bankrupt companies, the recession and all of the other depressing up to date, tid bits called NEWS! Show me something wonderful, something new, something that will lift my spirits and make me smile. I want to hear positive things. Miracles happen every day and we never hear about them. I am searching for the good things in life, not the negative. I want to feel good when I hear some news for a change.

Back To School

School starts back tomorrow! I love summer classes, they are quick and you have 3 more credits at the end of the session. I am taking some classes to earn my BSN degree. My goal is to take 2 classes this summer and then 3 in the fall.
The class that I am about to take has a lot of reading and essays to write. So I will be a busy girl for the next 4 weeks.
Hope you have a wonderful day!

Movie Monday!

Durango is a Hallmark Hall of Fame movie. It is set in 1939 Ireland, where a young man decides to drive his cattle 40 miles to a larger city to sell for more money. It is such a beautiful story and the scenery is spectacular to watch. I really enjoyed this movie, it is such a great family movie to watch. Hope you will rent this one soon. It has also been on the Hallmark channel lately. You might be able to catch it on TV. Have a great day !
